Understanding 7th vs 8th Pay Commission

The 7th Central Pay Commission is the current salary structure for Central Government employees. It introduced the Pay Matrix, which replaced the old grade pay system.

The 8th Central Pay Commission is a projected future revision. It typically uses a “Fitment Factor” to multiply the existing 7th CPC basic pay to arrive at a new foundational basic pay.

A key difference is the DA Reset. In a new pay commission, the Dearness Allowance is usually merged into the basic salary, starting again from 0%.
